Preparing for Treatment

Helping You Feel Confident, Informed, and Ready

Starting radiation therapy can bring up many questions. At Radiant Cancer Care, our team is here to guide you every step of the way. Knowing what to expect—and how to prepare—can make a big difference in your comfort, confidence, and overall experience.

What to Do Before Your First Appointment

1. Complete Necessary Paperwork
Please bring or submit any required medical records, referrals, imaging results, and insurance documentation before your consultation. Our front desk team can assist if you have any questions.

2. Make a List of Questions
Write down anything you want to ask your doctor. This could include:

  • How many treatments will I need?

  • What side effects should I expect?

  • How should I care for my skin during therapy?

3. Bring a Support Person (If You’d Like)
A family member or friend can help take notes, ask questions, or just provide moral support during your consultation or first session.

On the Day of Simulation (Treatment Planning)

Wear Comfortable Clothing
You may be asked to change into a gown depending on the treatment area. Avoid lotions, powders, or perfumes near the skin where radiation will be delivered.

Expect Imaging Scans
You’ll undergo a CT scan (and sometimes MRI or PET) to map your treatment area. This session may also include custom positioning devices to ensure precision.

Stay Relaxed and Still
Simulation is painless, but it’s important to stay still during imaging. Our staff will talk you through everything.

General Tips for the Entire Treatment Period

Nutrition & Hydration
Try to eat nourishing meals and stay well-hydrated. Ask our team if you’d benefit from speaking with a registered dietitian.

Get Plenty of Rest
Fatigue is common during radiation therapy. Listen to your body and allow time for rest and recovery.

Take Care of Your Skin
Your care team will give you specific instructions for washing and moisturizing the skin near the treatment area. Let us know if you experience irritation.

Ask Questions Anytime
No question is too small. You’ll meet regularly with your radiation oncologist during treatment, and our staff is always here to help.

What You Don't Need to Worry About

  • Treatment is non-invasive and painless.

  • Most sessions are quick—typically 10–30 minutes.

  • You won’t feel radiation being delivered.

We’re here to ensure you feel informed, comfortable, and supported from your very first visit through your final follow-up.
